  • Agriculture graduate Sion Evans is a first-generation farmer near Lampeter where he keeps sheep and beef cattle on 220 acres. With more than 26 years working in the support industry for farmers – largely for Farming Connect - he has a huge amount of experience, knowledge and skills and an exceptionally strong network of contacts and experts.  Add to that the numerous business management courses Sion has undertaken for his own personal development, and you get the picture of what he can bring to an Agrisgôp group in his latest role as a leader!
  • Practically minded and with excellent organisational skills, Sion has been involved in the Farming Connect programme since 2002.  Since 2011 he has been Farming Connect’s regional manager for South West Wales.  In addition to this role, he is the programme’s ‘agriculture manager’, working alongside technical experts and other staff to help ensure that the programme’s overarching agricultural strategy delivers the support services, guidance and events farmers need to run sustainable, viable businesses.
  • Formerly a scientific officer at ADAS Pwllpeirian, Sion remains up to date with a wide range of pan-Wales research projects. His interests and knowledge range from soil sampling and pathogens of manures to vegetable and crop surveys, pests and animal health and numerous other topics – many of which are the basis of projects and trials at Farming Connect’s pan-Wales network of demonstration sites.
  • Sion is a keen proponent of farmers and growers each playing their part in addressing climate change and facing current economic pressures through introducing innovative, more effective ways of sustainable land management that will benefit the environment while leading to greater efficiency and profitability too.
  • •    A fluent Welsh speaker and confident communicator, Sion is renowned for his ‘no nonsense’ approach, and he has vast experience of working with farmers at grass roots level, planning, organising and taking the lead at many farmer-focused events and for specialist projects.
  • •    Sion is looking forward to his latest role as an Agrisgôp leader and will give his group members the confidence, knowledge and information they need to work collaboratively to develop new business ideas or diversification ventures.   Expect answers to your questions, solutions to your challenges – and if he doesn’t have the necessary information himself – he’ll undoubtedly know someone who does!
