Matt Swarbrick from Caernarfon will visit Sweden

With a background in television production, buying a smallholding in Snowdonia was a big step for Matt in 2012.  His business now employs two part time staff and takes on numerous volunteers when appropriate. The principle focus is on sheep farming, but Matt has diversified into a glamping and camping tourism venture; micro dairying (cow’s milk) and forestry.

He is in both a horticulture discussion group and a Farming Connect Agrisgôp group.  The aim is to grow the farm to be ever more resilient and to provide more employment.

“I plan to visit the Ridgedale Permaculture Farm in Sweden which is Europe’s and possibly the world’s leading example of how the hard application of regenerative techniques can make small farms productive and profitable.

“In just five years Ridgedale has developed from a newly built and started small farm (30Ha) to a business supporting seven full time staff in a profitable business model. It has become a world leader in regenerative agricultural methods. Its main business enterprises are egg production, market gardening, micro dairying and tourism.”
