Efa Jones

Bala, Gwynedd

Being raised on her family’s sheep farm at Maes y Waen has inspired Efa Jones to consider a future career in veterinary medicine.

Efa is currently studying for her GCSEs at Godre'r Berwyn School, Bala, but describes herself as a “farm girl’’ who enjoys everything from training sheepdogs to lambing and wrapping wool. “I'm certainly not afraid to soil my hands!’’ she says.

She harnesses her competitive streak on the rugby pitch, captaining the Under 16s team, Gwylliaid Meirionnydd, and representing North Wales too. She also plays hockey with the local team.

As well as sport, Efa takes part in competitions as a member of Maesywaen YFC, in the Rally, Eisteddfod and in public speaking.

She sings with the William Mathias Society, often taking part in charity concerts and performing at residential homes for the elderly in Bala.

Efa describes having the opportunity to visit Holland with the Agri Academy Junior Programme as a “once in a lifetime experience’’.

“It will be amazing to see how the Dutch farm, and to bring ideas home to share with the family."

“I have so much more that I want to learn, this is why the Junior Programme is perfect for me. I believe the experiences I will get will enrich my skills and prepare me for the world of work and allow me learn things I haven't been able to learn at home on the farm.’’
